Abstract

This study examined the participation experiences of older adults in the market-type senior employment support program. In-depth interviews were conducted with 14 senior citizens participating in the same program. As a result of analyzing interview contents by using the grounded theory, Strauss and Corbin (1998) proposed, the central phenomenon of participation experience of the marketable elderly job supporting program for the older adult appeared to be ¡®continuously participating in the same program.¡¯ The core category integrating causal conditions (the need for activity to form time/anxiety about later years in life), contextual conditions (current situation where it is hard to depend on children/productive old age discourse), mediating conditions(characteristics of program organization/characteristics of labor process/personal characteristics of participants), strategies(deleting images from the past/being appreciative of the fact of being able to work/keeping good relationships with people interested), and results (securing economic power/fun as well as sense of achievement/improvement and revitalization of health/ expecting support from the government) was materialized into ¡®maintaining the condition where one is satisfied with its job to some degree.¡¯ Implications for policy and practical undertones were proposed based on the research result.
